Prompt #1

Prompt #1-

The Youtube videos, "Did you Know" and "Pay Attention" were very eye opening for me to see how much technology has progressed and affected education and society in general. Technology has changed the way we communicate with each other and how quickly we can do so. The statistics in "Did You Know" were very surprising but also showed that technology has changed even more since the video was created.

For example,"If Myspace were a country, it would be the 5th-largest in the world" (Did You Know?). If the video were made today, the statistics would probably be much higher for Facebook, as well as the other items.  Even Facebook is beginning to be replaced by Twitter, and it makes me wonder what new social networking sites will be used in the future. I also found it interesting that the video described a “supercomputer” that would exist in 2013. If it exists now or in the near future, I wonder how it will change the way we receive and exchange information even more.

Since technology and society are changing so much, so should classrooms and learning. I found from the Youtube video “Pay Attention” (jordandistrict.org)   that technology can be very beneficial to students and teachers. It can provide more options for how lessons can be taught, and can reach a greater variety of students. Technology can reach all kinds of learners, as well as keep them interested since it is something that they would be using anyway, not just for school work.

However, it can be detrimental as a distraction for students that take focus away from the lesson or topic at hand. That is only if a student takes advantage of the opportunity to get off task. As long as the teacher is knowledgeable and uses the technology in an effective, dynamic way, it will beneficial for everyone.
